Here is a beautiful knife designed by Kauko Raatiniemi, in the small town of Kolari up in Finnish Lappland.

A 9.5cm shaving sharp carbon steel blade with a quite exquisite handle constructed from numerous layers of birch bark that provides a striking look, and feels very comfortable in the hand.

As with all of Kauko's knives, the influence of Sami tradition and the culture of the people of the boreal forest are clearly evident in this beautiful knife.

The hand-forged blade is made from quality high carbon steel hardened to HRC 63-65 and tempered to HRC 59 to balance ductility and brittleness. The blade extends with an internal tang secured at the top of the handle and is natural unpolished carbon black (except for the grind). The knife has a flat Scandinavian grind with a small secondary bevel for added strength.
The sheath is made from wet-formed vegetable tanned cow leather. It has a reindeer leather belt dangler attached to it.
